Unusual Activity Report: Sweetly Seasoned vs. Seasoned Street Food (A TikTok Tale)
Once again, we have a case of the internet being in a rush to internet, this time resulting in a mess for an unsuspecting and uninvolved business.
Ya heard of TikTok? Well apparently creator Keith Lee travels around reviewing small food businesses, had a run-in with a Dallas food truck “Sweetly Seasoned.” The food was good enough to warrant a $4000 dollar tip (!!!) but said tip was kept by the truck owner, instead of being distributed amongst the staff.
As creators will do, another video was posted, covering the drama, and as internet dwellers will do, the masses took to Google to leave scathing reviews. … of the wrong business…
Also in Dallas is Seasoned Street Food. Sweetly Seasoned, Seasoned Street Food. Kiiiinda close, I guess?
Apparently close enough for the Evola family, who run SSF to receive over 60 calls lambasting their “callous behavior” and many negative Google reviews, referencing Lee, the tip, or other imagined negative experiences.
They’ve since held a pop-up to draw attention to, uh, NOT being those people, and have that splash screen on their website, as they’ve spent time and money building up their brand and base of clients.
We’ve seen this often on the internet, from the wrong person being tagged on Twitter, to the wrong business being bashed, and while it sometimes can be humorous, there are times when it can be damaging and dangerous.
Don’t post hate in haste, even if it’s just a Google review. Take a moment to be sure you know exactly what you’re doing. If you’ve got the right target in your sights, then by all means, you do you, fire away.
